The Story... Resistance

There are protests around the country and around the world against facism, oligarchy, and the collapsing independent branches of our government in favor of letting Trump be Trump and dictators be dictators. This is good!

Our Democratic Party is hamstrung because they are trying to appear the reasonable and lawful party and are worried about the optics which allowed the CR to pass last week with significant cuts to key parts of our budget. Yes, Republicans (the party of Trump) control all three branches of our nation and there are not a lot of legal ways to slow the roll of Project 2025, but there aren't none. They are not using their greatest power, the power of the people. Their messaging is measured in tone and fumbling in overall themes and are not connecting to the people who are itching, waiting, struggling to do their part. If our democratic politicians can't lead like Sen. Bernie Sanders and Governor Waltz and host rallies and town halls in Republican districts where the Republicans are too scared because of the blowback they are receiving, then the Dems should find out where the protests and communities are organizing and show up and be a part of the crowd and listen until they hear what we, as the citizens of this country, are concerned about and how we want them to fight.

There will be a time coming, where we will need to take to the streets, not with guns, but with voices and bodies. There are protests all over the country that are protesting many of the warped things that this Administration is trying to put over on us by abolishing our government and its agencies, our rights, and the caring of our seniors, veterans, disabled and vulnerable people in our nation. I don't know who or how, but we will need the unions, and the citizens groups, and the bodies of faith to come together and call for a general strike. The 50/50 group may take off and help organize this, but it needs to be bigger. We will need over 10 million people to start on a Monday and stay throughout the week for as long as it takes. I don't know how bad it will get before this happens, but it seems that nothing short of a country wide general strike is going to get the attention of our elected leaders on both sides of the aisle.

Keep using your voice and your witness, even if you don't change a politicians minds, you presence and voice will give others the courage to share theirs, will lift up those who stand with you, and let the opposition know that real Americans for Democracy have not given up nor are we going to give in.

During the Birmingham Bus Boycott, there were concerts, speakers, and worship services every night to sustain everyone's spirit and the movement. It is time to find those, create those, and come together with these as well. Do not just stay home and doom scroll and repost the latest $#@$#$ing illegal actions from our Grifter in Chief and his Sugar Daddy Elon. Find the spaces and communities that share some of the pain and anger, but also joy and hope and compassion. And do what you can, when you can to be a part of a better world and society.

This past weekend there were horrific storms, tornadoes, and flooding, and our President won a golf tournament and bombed children in Yemen while ignoring a courts order to properly process the 238 suspects flown to El Salvador. As long as he is making 'good television', and no one is really standing up to him, this will be the next four years.

Hold on to compassion. Hold on to the belief that the American experiment is good for all inside and outside our country with the belief that all people are created equal, all people have rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, as well as, the freedom of religion, press, and protest. We can save the hope for people today and generations to come.

There is good in the our world and darkness always gives way to the dawn. May the sun rise soon.

Peace

Sabbath

In the Five Books of Moses where also known as the? (Pentateuch) What was the last thing written of the Pentateuch, the last story? Hint: it was a poem. (The First Creation Story) The Seven Day Creation Story was put in its final form, the first time it was written down was while the people of Israel were in the diaspora spread throughout the Babylonian Empire in the sixth century BCE. It became widely shared because the prophet Jeremiah told the people to marry amongst the people wherever they were at and to settle in. Yes one day, they would return to the towns and Jerusalem, but for now, continue to live. The people of the nation of Judah were there for about seventy years, so there were a couple of generations happening and their children and grandchildren were forgetting their language, their heritage, and their God. Then, the poem about God creating the world in seven days was used as a reminder, a balm, and a way to remember who and whose they were. It centered on the sabba...

For They Were Afraid

The Gospel of Mark starts with Jesus' baptism, there is no birthday story, no background, just jumps right in with his baptism, driven into the wilderness to be tempted, proclaims, "Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand." Plucks Simon and Andrew up which they mend their fishing nets, heals Simon Peter's mother-in-law and she immediately gets up and serves them. (How many times does Mark use immediately?) And the next morning gets up early and while everyone is searching for him, he is heading to the next town. It is like a big movie opening that grabs everyone's attention and it doesn't slow down.  Did you ever watch Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail? There was to be this final battle of King Arthur with his forces and the God's blessing and just as the battle commences, modern police show up and arrest everyone and the movie is over and we are left scratching out head, "What just happened?" The end of Mark is just as confusing,...

Covenant of the United Church of Christ

That they may all be one! This was the dream of the these different denominations and churches coming together in 1957. That they may all be one! While many denominations were splitting and continually finding reasons that they couldn't be siblings with those Christians over there, a group of mainline Protestant leaders came together that united and uniting was the future of the Church. Yes, it was mainly four major denominations which are: 1. Congregational 2. Christian 3. Reformed (German) and 4. Evangelical Synod (Lutheran). There were many other smaller groups that joined as well, that included Back, Native, and Hungarian. But if you look at the first General Synod picture, it was pretty much white, middle class men. With global communication becoming easier, travel, television, and the United Nations, they had a dream and vision that all Christians could live together, worship together, and be one as we are one in God with Christ.  That they may all be one! is the United Churc...
