 The Story...

It is a fact that after WWII, the GI Bill helped millions of veterans go to college and get degrees and also helped them secure housing through no down payment low interest loans. It is a fact that over 1 million African Americans served in the armed forces during WWII, but very few (less than 70,000) were able to access college help and of the suburbs built for veterans often had a clause that the owner couldn't sell to a 'colored' family. There are still deeds with this language written into it.
In the 1950's there were signs on businesses saying, "Help wanted: whites only." In 2004, a study was done with the exact same resumes except the first names of Greg and Emily instead of Jamal and Lakisha out to real businesses. Greg and Emily got 50% more calls for interviews than Jamal and Lakisha.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI that communist plot) is a way to make things more equitable for all Americans, not just those who have been lucky enough to been born 'white.' The critics and the falsehood believe that if a white person loses a job to this DEI, they were more qualified than whoever the 'other' person was. To believe that the 'white' person is always better qualified is racist. And when it is shown to happen over and over again in a bias, it is systemic racism.
Our current President blamed the at least one of the plane crashes on DEI hires, even before anything was known. This is racist. Turns out that all were 'white' in those connected to the crash.
DEI is a correction to a system that is already rigged and has been since the beginning of our country when African slaves were counted as 3/5 of a person and had no rights. When 'white' people stop seeing BIPOC people as someone 'less', and corrections and reparations have been made, then we can say, "All lives matter!" and fulfill our pledge for "liberty and justice for all."

A Tale of Two Females

 In a book called, "The Year of Living Biblically" by A.J. Jacobs, he tried to follow all 435 commands found in the Torah or Pentateuch. One of those commands was that you couldn't touch a woman while she was having her period so he wouldn't hug, kiss, or hold the hand of his wife during her cycle. She learned that he couldn't sit where she sat, so when she became frustrated with him she would sit on every piece of furniture in the house so he would have to stand or sit on the floor the whole day. We don't know what kind of hemorrhaging this woman in the crowd was suffering, but for her to be so afraid of Jesus and the crowd that she didn't ask for healing, but just touched his cloak and had faith that she would be made well, we have to assume that she has spent twelve long years not being able to hug, kiss, or hold hands with her family and friends. Do not be Afraid!

 There is a plan for the future of this country that is posed to be a '2nd American Revolution.' It is called, "Project 2025." The authors of this 91 page plan are mostly former staffers of the last President and the Heritage Foundation. It is so bad that as the word is getting out about it  the actions that are set to be taken, even the current Republican Presidential candidate is trying to put some distance from it, because he knows he can't sell it. The highlights are taking away abortions and contraceptives for all our nation, getting rid of marriage equality, allowing the President to fire any government employee and put in their place someone whose only qualification is loyalty to the President, and getting rid of the Department of Education and the Environmental Protection Agency. Basically to turn our Democracy into an authoritarian regime ruled by the oligarchy.  We, as a church, are not supposed to be dipping our toes into politics for the most part. We ...

Do Not Be Afraid

 I have preached for over 25 years now, and conservatively, I have preached 50 sermons a year, means I have preached over 1,250 sermons. Do I get nervous sometimes, scared of what I am preaching on, how I am saying it, or what will you, the church, think and how will you react? Yep, of course. There were some periods where I get a little cocky or some periods where I think they are all crap and I have nothing to say.  Today, I am preaching about something that intertwines religion and politics. A little nervous about it, not sure how everyone will hear it, and it will probably offend some. However, there is a thing called Christian Nationalism out there that is not just hand in hand of some politicians, political party, and evangelical Christians, mainly white Christians, but they are in lock step, eating, vacationing, and passing laws based upon their version of Christianity and how our America society should look and how the government should serve only them, while the rest ...
