The Story... the Constitution

 The Story... Our Constitution

Over the last week, many Republican Congress had town halls in which their constituents shared their displeasure with how the administration is handling things. Many politicians continued to gaslight the town hall people that American citizens can trust our President and his right-hand man whose position is ambiguous but his power is not. It in our Constitution that Congress has the power of the purse. They decide where the money is to be spent and how. Elon Musk is going through different departments and making cuts to individual programs (targeting the ones who are investigating his businesses) and whole-sale slaughter. What he is doing is illegal for sure, unconstitutional, and bordering on traitorous as this seems to be leading to the destruction of our government and democracy.

I have been accused of being too political. It is true that I follow politics more than the average citizen and I have voted for one party much more than the other. But I have only donated to a couple of local state candidates, not for Congress or President in a long, long time. I wish this was just a political fight, but it is much more than that.

I could list all the ways in which President Trump in the past has broken and ignored the law and traditions of our democracy, but for those who support him this will fall on deaf ears and for those who don't, you know the list. What matters right now is that he is firing people who are experts in their fields and serve our nation honorably and replacing them with people who are loyal to him. He is placing those in charge who have little to no experience in government or the areas in which they are in charge of. This weakens our government, our democracy, and our nation.

As a citizen of this nation, I seek to uphold the Constitution and the rights of every American citizen. As a Christian, I seek the well being of every human person, no matter what their nationality, their religion, or their family.

This nation was created that everyone has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Our country has been painfully living into it but progress has been made. We are a multi-racial, multi-cultural, religiously diverse nation and we are not going back to the 'good ole days' when white men can do whatever they please. Trump is showing that it is part of our nation's DNA, but it can be rooted out and we can continue to evolve. This is patriarchy's last grasp and it won't succeed. Because Christ's mission is to bring good news to the poor, free the oppressed, and send the rich away empty. (Luke 4)

On Aug. 28, 1893, Sen. James Kyle of South Dakota introduced S. 730 to the U.S. Senate to make Labor Day a legal national holiday on the first Monday of September each year. President Grover Cleveland signed the bill on June 28, 1894. By then, a fall holiday called Labor Day was already being observed. Beginning in the late 19th century, parades, picnics and other celebrations took place to support labor issues such as shorter hours, better pay and safer working conditions, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. In introducing the legislation, Kyle said that labor organizations were united in asking that the first Monday of September be set apart as a holiday in order to make the observance uniform. This would result in workers enjoying vacation privileges on the same day, according to the Dec. 1, 1965, issue of “The Wi-Iyohi,” a monthly bulletin published by the South Dakota State Historical Society. Prior to serving as a U.S. Senator, Kyle served as pastor at the Congregati...

In the Five Books of Moses where also known as the? (Pentateuch) What was the last thing written of the Pentateuch, the last story? Hint: it was a poem. (The First Creation Story) The Seven Day Creation Story was put in its final form, the first time it was written down was while the people of Israel were in the diaspora spread throughout the Babylonian Empire in the sixth century BCE. It became widely shared because the prophet Jeremiah told the people to marry amongst the people wherever they were at and to settle in. Yes one day, they would return to the towns and Jerusalem, but for now, continue to live. The people of the nation of Judah were there for about seventy years, so there were a couple of generations happening and their children and grandchildren were forgetting their language, their heritage, and their God. Then, the poem about God creating the world in seven days was used as a reminder, a balm, and a way to remember who and whose they were. It centered on the sabba...

Covenant of the United Church of Christ

That they may all be one! This was the dream of the these different denominations and churches coming together in 1957. That they may all be one! While many denominations were splitting and continually finding reasons that they couldn't be siblings with those Christians over there, a group of mainline Protestant leaders came together that united and uniting was the future of the Church. Yes, it was mainly four major denominations which are: 1. Congregational 2. Christian 3. Reformed (German) and 4. Evangelical Synod (Lutheran). There were many other smaller groups that joined as well, that included Back, Native, and Hungarian. But if you look at the first General Synod picture, it was pretty much white, middle class men. With global communication becoming easier, travel, television, and the United Nations, they had a dream and vision that all Christians could live together, worship together, and be one as we are one in God with Christ.  That they may all be one! is the United Churc...
